Choose the location access you need
Ordinary recording can request while-in-use location. Automatic journeys may need a separate Always or background-location upgrade because they can begin without the app on screen. Leaf Pro explains the purpose before requesting that upgrade. If permission is denied, the app offers an Open Settings route rather than pretending location is active.
When background options are on but access is insufficient, Settings → Journey logging displays a standing note. Phone settings and permission names vary with OS version. Check the actual permission shown after returning from Settings.
Android background connection
“Keep polling in the background” uses a foreground service with a visible connection notification and wake-lock support. Manufacturer battery restrictions or a stopped app can still interrupt it. A service is not a promise that every phone will record indefinitely. Review the system’s battery settings for Leaf Pro if a test session stops when the screen locks.
iPhone background connection
BLE background support lets the OS deliver certain connection events when the app is off screen. It does not give the app unlimited continuous processing time. The OS may suspend or terminate it, and Wi-Fi connections have different limitations. Reconnect and state recovery help, but a complete background recording cannot be guaranteed.
Test your actual setup
Start a short recording while parked, lock the phone briefly, unlock it and inspect timestamps and status. Then test a normal journey. If there are gaps, report the phone, OS, adapter, transport and permission state. Do not promise yourself uninterrupted logging based only on a toggle being enabled.
