leafStart with the radio type
BLE and Bluetooth Classic are different transports. iPhone cannot use a generic Classic SPP dongle through Leaf Pro. Android can use either. Some dual-mode adapters have different names for their two radios; the device picker merges the available choices into one list.
Scan and connect
- Park, fit the adapter and power the vehicle as directed by the adapter maker.
- Open Settings → Adapter, or use the connection action during onboarding.
- Allow Bluetooth / nearby-device access. On older Android versions, scanning can also involve a location permission.
- Start a scan and tap your adapter. Close other OBD apps if they are holding the connection.
- Wait for the connection status to reach active polling and for vehicle values to arrive.
An Android notification prompt may appear before the connection. Leaf Pro explains it first because a background connection uses a visible service notification. Declining a notification prompt does not itself prove that Bluetooth is unavailable.
Reconnect behaviour
Settings → Connection includes “Connect at start” and “Reconnect after a drop”. The first tries the last successful adapter when the app opens. The second retries a dropped adapter with increasing delays. The current retry window is about eight minutes. Reopening the app can prompt a new attempt when the adapter becomes reachable again.
What a connection does not guarantee
The phone can connect to the adapter even when the car is off or an ECU is not answering. Likewise, a BLE device in the scan list may not be an OBD adapter. Confirm actual readings before recording. If values become stale, Leaf Pro preserves the last reading with a stale indicator; it is not a new measurement.
